The Soundscape

Visible.Invisible was a soundscape of recorded creative conversations between white women in committed relationships with Black men. It was produced in October 2020 for Folkestone Fringe as part of the 'Magic Carpets' Platform and co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.

Visible.Invisible reflected on themes of white privilege; taking up and making space; being mothers of Black sons; disclosure, exposure and maintaining privacy; shame, guilt and defensiveness; and the impact of racism on our personal relationships. This audio recording, a collaboration with composer/musician Randolph Matthews, uses text from Marinade and was my contribution to the soundscape. It references my 35 year relationship with Arike, who died in a road accident June 2020.
